A New Prayer

Several weeks ago during my morning walk I told God that if I did nothing else with my life, I wanted to spend it getting to know Him more and more. I heart’s desire is to be a friend to Him as Moses and Abraham were.

I know that His Holy Spirit lives in me and He’s even called me friend. But I want to go deeper and deeper in intimacy with Him. I want to know His voice and presence WELL! And I know this is a life long journey.

But this morning…this morning I came across Moses’ words to God in Exodus that just felt like a confirmation and response to this ongoing prayer of my heart.

If it is true that you look favorably on me, let me know your ways so I may understand you more fully and continue to enjoy your favor. And remember that this nation is your very own people. — Exodus 33:13

So that is my prayer now. Want to join me?

Oh my friend, I got the emails yesterday and plan to email you today. My heart is broken for you two. And EVC. I love you both dearly and your prayers have meant so much to Leslie and I. I told her before we left San Jose that you two still pray for her. Hugs!

Tamed to Be Messy

My life used to have meaning. Born with a silver spoon in my mouth I quickly spat out, I defied my parents, dropped out of law school, and became a lifeguard. What can I say? I love the surf, the sand, and helping others.

But that was before the accident.

My rotator cuff is torn so badly I may have to quit the career that gives me so much joy. I’ve got a grueling rehabilitation ahead of me with no guarantee it will be successful. Last time I saw her, she was an eighteen-year-old wild-child with pigtails and a wiggly puppy in her arms. Now, that naïve independent streak has matured into bold confidence. And the way she looks at me makes it obvious she’s glad we’re getting reacquainted.

With my future on the line and us spending so much time together, I know I’ve got to keep this strictly professional. Because if her brother ever thought my treatment plan involved us becoming more than friends, I’d be the one in need of rescue.

So what’s it going to be? My career or my heart?

Is there any way to have both?
